So the last time I posted here, COVID-19 was just beginning to wreak havoc on the planet - just a month later, the U.S. would completely shut down as all hell broke loose. I remember going out for drinks with friends in SLC on March 11th, missing my regular Wednesday grocery shopping; when I went to the store on 3/12, the shelves were empty and people were panicking. I got back from the store a little panicked myself. Mr. Mouse grabbed me, the dog and a few beers and made me go for a walk. When we got back, it was time to hunker down.
And hunker down I have. Not work: I have continued to go in to the office every single day, while Mr. Mouse's work closed their offices, forcing him to set up a home office in our dark basement. The dog loves having him home but Mr. Mouse is anxious to have idle office chitchat around the photocopier again. Skiing ended abruptly and we are skeptical about this coming season, although we are trying to remain hopeful. We haven't gone out to eat hardly at all, except for SLC's newest brewpub, Grid City Beerworks, who had this misfortune to plan their grand opening in mid-March. We are really enjoying their beer, their food and their friendly staff.
Pop-culture-wise, the library has been closed (recently opened now for pre-scheduled book pick-ups) so I've been raiding the home library of a work friend who has similar tastes. I've been introduced to Neal Stephenson (Reamde) and N.K. Jemisin, and am onto John Crowley's Aegypt Cycle now.
I have not been watching many movies, instead immersing myself in genre television so as to block out the world outside: Lucifer, 11/22/63, Stargirl, finishing Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Pose and now have been delighted to discover that all of Fringe is available over on IMDb TV! I'm going to crush all that and then mosey over to Amazon for S2 of The Boys.
And yes, the next time you see a post here won't be so long - we're fast approaching the Eleventh Annual October Scarelicious Movie Series!!! I have already started watching scary movies (and let me tell you, ain't nothing in any streaming catalog or DVD library that's as scary as the current state of the union) and am super-psyched for it.
How are all of you? Relatively sane? Taking care of yourselves? What are you reading/watching?
