this blog is so empty it echoes

Yikes.  Run a Lost repeat and there's a mighty big hole here on ol' FMS.  I'd like to say that things will pick up soon, but what with the dismal state of television right now, I just don't know.  I'm halfway through a British DVD to review and am reading a clever little book, so those are upcoming.  True Blood S2 will finally be out on DVD in May and I plan to recap those episodes - am looking forward to a little trashy, Southern vampire/werewolf action, frankly.  And later this summer, Mr. Mouse and I are going to dive into Big Love (ahem - the HBO series, you perverts).  Seems only fitting since we live out in Utah now.

What else is going on?  Since I'm a glutton for punishment, I'm still watching V and Flashforward ... and they're just sooooooooo bad.  So bad.  I can't even talk about it.  Slightly better is the first episode of ABC's Happy Town, which seems to be a cross between Twin Peaks and Harper's Island.  It seems to be trying a little too hard to be edgy and weird, and some of the acting is Not Very Good.  But hopefully Amy Acker will be given more to do, because I always like her, and Sam Neill is creepily charming/charmingly creepy as always.  I have slight hopes for this series but daren't get too attached.  Finally, Justified is still holding both Mr. Mouse's and my attention - amazingly - and while I don't think that these subsequent episodes have lived up to the promise of the pilot and the story-of-the-weeks get wrapped up pretty neatly, I find many of the characters interesting and fun to watch and the dialogue is usually strong.

So that's it for now.  Sorry it's been so slacktastic around here, and what with company coming for the long weekend, there most likely won't be any updates until Lost next week.  Y'all come back and visit us then, y'hear?

  1. Hey, sorry I haven't been posting anything lately. The last couple episodes of Lost have just left me with a lot to think about and not a lot to say. They seem to really...reeeally want to save all the important info for the last show or two. Some of my theories seem not to quite fit anymore and, to be frank, the snail's pace that this show moves at sometimes has managed to tire out my thinker. I'm just kind of waiting now.

I'll wait to hear your next review.
BTW, South Park has some pretty funny episodes lately ;) You could review some of those...

  2. I'm here reading all the time (have the blog on my feeds), but haven't posted anything either. Also, I'm just starting Lost, Season 1, so I don't read the lost recaps (I know, I know...JUST starting Lost?!) Anyway, now I'll have to check out Justified!

  3. You all are so cute! I meant that the echoing was from my not hardly posting anything - didn't mean to imply that my commenters were slacking!

@Carl - they seem to just be cranking stuff out now what with the finish line in sight. It was actually kind of nice to have a break from the recapping ... back on again tonight!

@bp - I actually think watching Lost on DVD is highly preferable because if you've got the time/inclination, you can watch a bunch of episodes in a row, and that really can help with the continuity. And while Justified isn't completely fabulous, I have a soft spot for Timothy Olyphant since I loved Deadwood sooooo much. Enjoy!

  4. I think I already told you this, but, here's a book that you must add to your TO READ stack: Game of Throne by George RR Martin. It's a series (I think 4 out of the 7 have been written so far) and they're turning the 1st book into an HBO series with the subsequent books being subsequent seasons. Get on the train Mousey! You won't regret it.

Also, I'm glad I didn't bother to watch V or Flash Forward.

  5. I'm at the station - got that series written down in my lists of everything notebook - just haven't boarded yet.

  6. Man doesn't V suck?! Everyone I know is still hanging in there for some unknown reason.I think it's subliminal Bliss-style marketing. I actually thought the Soldier-Runaway Preggers ep was solid, but then they've gone back to the ludicrous junk they've been doing. I honestly believe I tune in just to see Morena Baccarin. If they'd kill the FBI woman and her son the show would be better by tenfold, imo. Father Jack & Ryan are the only stories worth watching.

I have really enjoyed Justified. I like skeevy Olyphant, though. I'm also 3 weeks behind on the show. Hopefully I'll catch up this week.

I'm planning to finish up Dexter S3 by next week, then it's Rome and onto True Blood. I could use some Southern vampire/werewolf action myself.

  7. I feel bad for Elizabeth Mitchell: she caught a lot of shit for being wooden on Lost (and just when she started to loosen up, they killed her off), but on V they just don't give her anything to do. I hate the kid who plays her son. In comparison, Flash Forward just seems better and better, but it's gotten the axe now so why do I even bother. Makes me miss Dollhouse even with all its flaws.
