Pirates of the Carribean At World's End (mini) review

I will confess: I like the Pirates movies. I like the costumes and the make-up effects (Davy Jones's fish-crew are the stuff of nightmares), I like the over the top spectacle of it all, and mostly I like Johnny Depp in eyeliner. Mmmmmmm-mmm. This third Pirates movie is bigger, longer, crazier, soggier, more confusing, more unintelligible, more exhausting ... name a superlative and it pretty much applies. My complaints: I couldn't understand a bunch of the lines - whether from shouting or mumbling; the final battle between the crew of the Black Pearl and the crew of the Flying Dutchman seemed to go on forever; and I thought the whole Calypso story could have been dropped entirely. But, taken for what it is - a big ol' blockbuster meant to entertain its audience on a hot summer day - it's a treasure. Yar!

  1. Calypso wants you to know that "dere's an eevvil undah da seee!"

Yeah, her character was pretty much pointless. Also agreed on the length of the battle between the two ships.

At least it's better than the 2nd...
